Waterfowl Season Overview

Published on 25 February 2026 at 20:38

Though I was born and raised hunting, waterfowl wasn't something I grew up with. My grandpa would go every year, my dad grew up going, and my brother had gone a few times with grandpa. We tried it out this year and I'm now hooked. The first trip out I was lucky enough to get a gadwall drake while my cousin got a coot. After that we were going every weekend basically and my sister got a beautiful mallard drake that she's getting mounted. My favorite trip BY FAR was a last minute trip we took. Mother nature opted for heavy rain, cold, and some occasional wind gusts, but after sitting for hours we had birds flying over us/near us constantly (we're horrible shots haha) with pure luck I was lucky to get a drake shoveler and had it not been for my sister's lab Saige we would've never found him. I can't wait for next season and will be able to go out the full season instead of part.
